E01 Southern Expressway Colombo to Galle: total distance 128 km, toll approximately 700-900 LKR for a car (2026 rates) depending on which entry/exit points. Fast: 1.5-2 hours vs 3-4 hours old coastal road. Payment: ETC (electronic toll card) or cash at booths. Pass through: Colombo entrance (Kottawa) → Galle exit (Pinnaduwa). Rental cars usually include ETC or you pay cash. Chauffeur handles it. For frequent travelers: buy pre-paid ETC card at Kottawa entry gate.
Expressway extension to Hambantota (continuation E01) adds more toll but useful for reaching Yala area. Northern expressway now extends toward Kurunegala. Sri Lanka's road network improved dramatically over last decade. Rates confirmed at RDA (Road Development Authority) website.
