Sri Lanka festivals in April: check Buddhist Poya days (every full moon), Hindu festivals (Vel July, Deepavali Oct-Nov), Christian (Christmas Dec, Easter varies), Muslim (Ramadan and Eid dates vary). Perahera festivals Aug (Kandy), Jan (Kelaniya), Feb (Colombo).

Book accommodation around major festivals 4-6 months ahead. Attending Perahera: worth it! Free street viewing, paid grandstand seats. Duruthu, Navam, Kataragama perahera are all significant.
