Sri Lanka health insurance for tourists - which policy for hospital care?
3 Answers from travellers
For 2 weeks Sri Lanka: World Nomads Explorer or Standard (covers hiking, jeeps, snorkeling; motorbike rider extra required for scooters), IMG Global Patriot (broader coverage, higher limits), Allianz Global Assistance (mainstream option). Coverage to prioritize: medical evacuation ($100k+), COVID-related medical, adventure activities rider if you dive/surf/hike/motorbike. Cost: $30-70 for 2 weeks basic, $80-150 for premium with adventure rider. Read exclusions - alcohol involvement often voids claims.
Colombo private hospitals (Lanka, Asiri, Nawaloka) are excellent for anything short of major surgery - direct payment cash/card and reimburse insurance later is often faster than trying to arrange direct billing. Keep receipts. For serious issues, insurance evacuates to Singapore or Bangkok.
