Sri Lanka in March vs April - which month has better weather?
3 Answers from travellers
March is peak dry season across south and west coasts - reliable sun, calm sea, moderate humidity. April brings rising heat (30-33C), afternoon buildups by late April, and Sinhala/Tamil New Year (April 13-14) shuts many local businesses for 2-3 days. For classic Sri Lanka tourism (south coast + hills + cultural triangle): March wins clearly. April is still viable but hotter and pricier for the New Year holiday week.
March also has cooler nights in the hills - Nuwara Eliya can get to 10C at night, refreshing. By late April hills are warm even overnight. If you're heat-sensitive, March. If you specifically want to see the New Year cultural rituals, April 10-16 window.
