Sri Lanka in May weather realistic - south coast still ok?

Early May is transitional - southwest monsoon starts building but usually not fully arrived. First 2 weeks May: still mostly usable south coast (afternoon buildups increasing), by late May: reliable afternoon rain, sea starting to roughen. Strategy: (1) Go early May if possible (before May 15). (2) Focus mornings for beach/activities, afternoons for lunch/nap/spa. (3) Prices already 30-50% below peak. (4) East coast starting to become excellent (May-Sept) - pivot east coast if flexible. For mid-late May onwards: shift to east coast (Trincomalee) as primary.
May is deceptively viable - people write it off but early May can be beautiful. Sri Lanka's weather is regional. Just don't book last-two-weeks-May all on the south coast.
