Sri Lanka in September - can I still travel to south coast?

September is southwest monsoon tail - south and west coasts still see afternoon storms, choppy sea, some beach closures for swimming. NOT impossible, just not ideal. Mornings often clear enough for activities. Prices 40-60% below peak. Better strategy for September: focus east coast (Trincomalee, Passikudah still gorgeous - end of dry season there), hill country + cultural triangle (usable), skip the south beach idea. If south coast is fixed: expect wet afternoons, use them for spa/cafe time.
Also September has Arugam Bay's end of surf season - waves still ridable but crowds thin. Cultural triangle usually fine. Skip whale watching (season starts November). Adjust expectations and it works.
