Sri Lanka in September for wildlife - are animals active?

September wildlife: (1) Yala Block 1 closed (Sept 1 - Oct 15 typical closure). (2) Wilpattu OPEN - actually excellent September (fewer visitors, wildlife concentrated at remaining waterholes, leopard sightings common). (3) Uda Walawe OPEN - great for elephants year-round. (4) Wasgamuwa OPEN - jungle elephants. (5) Bundala OPEN - migratory birds arriving (Sept-March migration). (6) Sinharaja + Kithulgala for bird endemics - fine. Whale watching Mirissa NOT started (Nov onward). Whale watching Trincomalee finishing (May-Sept). Overall: wildlife perfectly viable in September, just pivot from Yala Block 1 to Wilpattu or Uda Walawe.
September actually a hidden gem for wildlife photography - fewer tourists at most parks, dramatic weather (dry-cracking landscapes at Uda Walawe, elephants concentrated at reservoirs), high animal density due to water scarcity. Photographer's window.
