Ambalangoda is the traditional home of Sri Lankan masks - Ariyapala Traditional Masks (workshop + museum, watch craftsmen work), Southland Masks Factory. Types: Kolam masks (folk drama), Raksha masks (demon, exorcism rituals), Naga Raksha (cobra demon - iconic), Sanni masks (18 disease demons). Legit workshop visits show craft; commercial shops sell tourist-scale versions. Prices 500 LKR for tiny tourist masks to 50000+ LKR for museum-quality ceremonial masks. Ariyapala is best for authenticity + range.
Also: Devil dancing ceremonies (Yak Thovil) sometimes performed in villages - if you're near Ambalangoda ask a local guide about attending. Not staged for tourists but occasionally attendable respectfully. Deeply cultural.
