Personal DSLR/mirrorless photography for social media, personal albums: no permit required. Walk through customs with your camera, no declarations. What DOES require permits: commercial photography (fashion, film, editorial paid work), drone use, and photography inside certain restricted sites (some inner shrines at Dambulla, Temple of Tooth). Personal tourist? Zero paperwork. Just snap.

Only friction is if you arrive with obvious commercial-scale gear (3 bodies, 8 lenses, big Pelican cases). Then customs might ask questions. For an A7 III + 2-3 lenses, you're a tourist.
