Sri Lanka SIM unlimited data - what's the real fair-use cap?
3 Answers from travellers
Truly unlimited doesn't exist. 'Unlimited data' plans are typically 50-100GB per 30 days at 4G speed, then throttled to 1 Mbps thereafter. For 2 weeks with video calls + streaming: Dialog 'Tourist Freedom' (30GB for 30 days, ~2500 LKR) or 'Any Time Data' packages (top up with additional GB). Mobitel similar. Practical cap for medium use (WhatsApp video, occasional Netflix): 20-30GB is fine. Heavy streaming user: top up to 50GB.
Also: hotel WiFi in mid-range+ is usually decent, save mobile data for tuk-tuk hops and rural areas. eSIM options via Airalo also work but pricier than local SIM. Local Dialog/Mobitel is best value.
