2026 status: Sri Lanka is one of the safer solo female destinations in South Asia. Warmth without intrusion, curiosity without harassment. Practical precautions: cover shoulders/knees at temples, avoid isolated beaches after dark, take PickMe not tuk-tuks at night alone in unfamiliar towns, dress moderately in villages. Beach touts persist but polite firm 'no' works. Post-2022 political period is stable - no security concerns. Widely reported as easier than India, comparable to Nepal or Thailand.

Trust your instinct as anywhere. Sri Lankan hospitality genuinely embraces solo women - guesthouse mothers often become surrogate hosts. Save 1912 (Tourist Police) in your phone, 1938 (Women's Emergency). Realistic risk: minor scams (overpricing), not serious threats.
