Brushing teeth with tap water in Colombo, Kandy, and major cities is generally fine for healthy adults - the microbial load is low and you rinse-and-spit. Not drinking it. In rural areas or older properties with tank storage, stick to bottled or filtered. The bigger illness risk isn't teeth-brushing: it's ice cubes from unknown sources, raw salads washed in tap water, and cross-contamination at buffets.

3 years living here, brush with tap, never sick from it. But use bottled to be safe if you're only here 2 weeks - a $2 habit vs a wrecked trip. Bottled water is 60-100 LKR per liter everywhere.
