Officially the national sport, played everywhere at grassroots. Watch: village games most late afternoons on any village court (open to spectators, respectful welcome). National-level Mercantile Volleyball tournament played in Colombo — check Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation calendar. Beach volleyball at Mount Lavinia and Negombo weekends.

Play: informal games at tourist beaches (join in!) or ask at your hostel — foreigners are welcome. Bring your own ball if you're at a private guesthouse. Nets often improvised — village games particularly informal. Wear athletic shoes; don't play barefoot on beach with sharp coral fragments.
