December on the south and west coasts is the start of dry season - mostly sunny days, occasional short afternoon showers early in the month, clearer as the month progresses. Late December (from around 20th) is peak dry and peak tourist season. East coast (Trincomalee, Passikudah) is opposite - rainy and rough in December. Book beach hotels on south and west, not east.

Rain in early Dec is typically 30 min tropical showers, not all day. Doesn't ruin days. By Christmas week weather is reliable. Book with confidence.
