Yala best months for wildlife: (1) Late Feb to early July - dry season, water sources reduce, animals concentrated at remaining waterholes = highest sighting rates. (2) Post-park-closure October reopening (mid-Oct) is transitional. (3) Nov-Jan: rainy, less concentrated wildlife but landscape lush - some prefer this. Peak sighting probability: April-June. However Yala closes Sept 1 - Oct 15 for drought recovery in a typical year. Best trade-off: February - excellent wildlife concentration + before peak dry harshness.
Drought concentrates animals brilliantly for photographers but is stressful on the ecosystem - Yala Wildlife Department closes the park to give the ecosystem recovery time. This is why Sept-mid Oct closure exists. Book Feb-April for peak sighting probability.
