Sri Lankan Airlines internal safety - sketchy reviews. Fly them or ground?
3 Answers from travellers
Sri Lankan Airlines has a solid safety record - IATA Operational Safety Audit (IOSA) certified, no fatal accidents in recent history. 'Sketchy reviews' online are usually about delays, missing luggage, customer service - not safety. Their internal flights (Cinnamon Air is the domestic brand for smaller planes) use small Cessna 208s for scenic hops. Also safe. If flying Colombo-Jaffna saves you 6-7 hours ground travel and costs $80-150 more, take the flight. Ground is scenic; flight is efficient. Both viable.
^ this. Also: Cinnamon Air's Colombo-Jaffna route is a scenic experience in itself (35 min flight, low altitude, views of paddies + coast). Different from a boring commercial flight. Almost worth flying for the experience alone.
