Christmas is a significant celebration for Sri Lanka's Catholic and Christian communities (~7% population) — huge in Negombo (Little Rome), Colombo, and northwestern coast. Expect: midnight masses at major churches (St. Anthony's Kochchikade, St. Lucia's Cathedral), decorated streets, Christmas market at Independence Square Colombo, family gatherings.

Traditional foods: love cake, breudher (Dutch Christmas fruit cake), roast pork or chicken, milk wine (traditional homemade fermented milk drink). Hotels do full Christmas dinners. Book Negombo accommodation ahead — 25th is spectacular there. Weather: sunny warm — beach Christmas!
