The endemic Sri Lankan Flying Snake (Chrysopelea taprobanica / Dangara Danda) exhibits remarkable biomechanical gliding capabilities. Before leaping from high branches, the snake selects a landing target and launches into the air. Mid-flight, it flares its ribs outwards and pulls its ventral belly scales upward, transforming its round body into a cross-sectional concave aerodynamic wing. By undulating in horizontal S-curves through the air, it creates dynamic lift and stability, steering mid-flight to land safely on lower tree trunks up to 20 meters away.
