Etiquette: (1) Make eye contact and smile, gesture at your camera to ask permission. (2) 'Photo OK?' in English or 'chaya ganna paluwada?' in Sinhala. (3) Show them the photo on screen after taking. (4) Respect refusals gracefully. (5) NEVER photograph in a way that mocks poverty or vulnerability.

Payment: for staged portraits (fisherman with net, tea picker, mask carver), tipping 200-500 LKR is respectful. Do NOT pay children directly (encourages begging). Best subjects: elders, workers proud of their craft, festival participants. Consider printing and mailing photos back for meaningful exchange.
