We are skipping the train and driving toward Ella Sunday morning after festival nights in Kandy. How early should we actually leave so we are past the town choke points before the city wakes - still dark, or is after breakfast fine.

Leave while it is still quiet - before the town fully wakes. Festival weekends leave leftover tuk and bag chaos at the usual pinch points even on Sunday.

After-breakfast starts work if you accept a slower crawl past the market belt. If you hate sitting in hill traffic, aim earlier.
