It's the standard because it works - hits highlights, geographic sense, single loop no backtracking. Not lazy, it's optimized. That said, alternatives worth considering: (1) SKIP Yala, add Wilpattu earlier (before Kandy) if wildlife is priority. (2) SKIP Sigiriya region entirely if you're not a ruins person, add 2 more days at Ella or coast. (3) Do the coast REVERSE (start at Mirissa, work up) if you want to end fresh and relaxed vs beaten up. Ask agency to customize - if they refuse, that's your answer.
^ this. Also worth: instead of Mirissa (crowded), consider Tangalle (quiet, upscale) or Hiriketiya (surf-yoga, small). Same region, different vibe. The 'standard' hits standard beach. You can do better.
