Saturday 22 Aug, Kandy, last Kumbal before Randoli. Listed 6:28 PM. We are three friends who will argue on the pavement. Pin in mind: the fruit-stall side that wants you to buy water to hold space. Raja Veediya is not a car park, confirm the last drop. Street if we can. No municipal ticket I will invent. Water already in the bag.

Seated later beats a maybe now. Do not invent a line close. Agree a tuk drop on Peradeniya Road or Katugastota Road, not on Raja Veediya at table time. The grid is cones and shoulders. Dump bags, bottles in the bag, walk the last bit to the fruit-stall side that wants you to buy water to hold space. Unreserved standing with hard-shells in festival week is how you hate the hop. No named CMB delay we can sit on.

Inner path, closed shoes. Spray edge is how you meet the clinic.

If you sit a table, order. Occupying shade with a bottle you brought is the rude version. Fine.

Harbour board, no promise. We sat the bay instead. Fine.

We took the quieter fork. No one clapped. No gazette.

Muffs on the four-year-old. Ninety minutes. Then tea.

We walked. Fine. The first number at Kandy was a test. Then tea.
