Tipping is appreciated but not aggressive here. Restaurants often add a 10 percent service charge already (check the bill); if not, rounding up or 10 percent is generous. For a full-day driver/guide, a common tip is around 1000 to 2000 rupees per day depending on service; hotel porters a couple of hundred rupees. On bargaining: fixed-price shops, supermarkets, ticketed sites and metered tuk-tuks are NOT negotiable, do not haggle there. Markets, souvenir stalls, unmetered tuk-tuks and craft sellers are fair game, expect to settle around 60 to 70 percent of the first asking price, always with a smile.

Using PickMe/Uber removes the tuk-tuk haggling entirely since the price is set. I tip the driver a small amount in the app or cash if they were great.

Bargaining should be friendly, not a fight. If they will not budge and the price is fair, just pay it. A few hundred rupees means far more to them than to us.

Really helpful breakdown, thanks. I will tip the driver per day and only bargain at the markets.
