Toddler and a pack of beach dogs on Unawatuna sand — shoo them or pick the kid up and leave?

Mid-morning, not empty. Five dogs circled our towel, friendly at first then growling over a biscuit another tourist threw. Toddler thinks they are puppies. Do we stand tall and shoo, feed them away, or just scoop the child and move to a busier cafe stretch? Prefer not to learn the hard way.

Scoop the toddler first, then calmly walk toward people and open cafes — do not run screaming and do not kick. Feeding usually makes the pack stick around and fight over scraps. Stand sideways, avoid eye-lock with the boldest dog, keep hands free of food. Most beach dogs are used to crowds, but biscuits from strangers change the mood fast. Ask nearby vendors which dogs are regulars; some are vaccinated and known, some are not. If skin is broken, wash and see a clinic about rabies risk rather than guessing. For the rest of the stay, picnic without offering food to animals.

We keep a water bowl at the cafe edge and tell guests not to feed on the towel line. Kids get picked up the moment growling starts.
