Solo female planning. See '1912' listed everywhere. Curious if it's real support or just a listed number that no one answers.

Real number. Answered in English 24/7. Used it twice in 5 years here - once for a lost bag (they coordinated with airport, bag recovered), once for a friend who was being followed (police dispatched within 10 min in Galle). Not just a listed number. Save it in your phone as '1912 Tourist Police' before you arrive. Also save 1938 (women's emergency) and 119 (general police).

Saving all three numbers now. Thanks for the reality check.

Also save your embassy's Colombo emergency contact. Different from 1912 - your embassy handles passport issues, arrest support, evacuation. 1912 handles day-to-day tourist stuff (theft, harassment, lost items). Both worth having pre-saved.
