I'd like to see traditional Sri Lankan dance, drumming, or a cultural performance. Any recommendations that aren't too touristy?

The 'Kandyan Dance' performances at some hotels in Kandy can be good, but for something more authentic, look for temple festivals (peraheras) or local events. The annual Kandy Esala Perahera is world-class but very crowded. Smaller regional festivals often have excellent performances with fewer tourists. In the south, some guesthouses organize small cultural evenings with local dancers. Ask locally what's happening during your visit.

If you just want to see the costumes and drumming, the hotel shows are fine and convenient. For a real cultural experience, timing your trip with a local festival is much better.

Will ask about local festivals during our dates. Thanks.
