Rukada (rod puppet) theater is a rare Sri Lankan folk tradition centered in Ambalangoda. Performances usually family-run, informal, tell traditional stories (Ramayana, folk tales, Buddhist Jatakas). Ambalangoda mask museum sometimes hosts scheduled shows; village events during festivals also feature them.
