Driver quote was insane. Ordinary board to Nanu Oya? Seated? How bad is luggage space?

If you need a seat through the hills, reserve. From Nanu Oya, an unreserved hop with big bags at busy hours is a gamble. 'Observation carriage' talk is blog folklore — ask the counter what exists that day.

Reserved Kandy–Ella and stopped stressing. Unreserved was okay midweek with small bags. With a suitcase I'd reserve.

If you're tired, stay nearer the bus stand / town centre in Nanu Oya and skip chasing a perfect sunset. Pull cash in Colombo, Kandy, or Galle first — cards are a maybe. Locals will tell you if a ticket is counter-only.
