Turtle hatchery near Kosgoda - my sister says they're all fake. True?

Your sister is mostly right. Most Kosgoda 'hatcheries' keep hatchlings in tanks for days so tourists can hold them = kills their survival rate. Ethical rule: hatchlings should be released same night they hatch, in the dark, on their birth beach. Real conservation site: TCP (Turtle Conservation Project) at Rekawa, further south. In-situ nest protection, no petting zoo, evening walks to see nesting adults during season (Apr-Aug). If you want to see turtles ethically, drive past Kosgoda and go to Rekawa.
^ this. Also: adopt-a-nest programs at TCP Rekawa are legit ($30-50, gets you a certificate and updates on your nest's success). Feel-good money that actually helps.
