Two weeks in Dec - leopards + whales + temple. Private tour or DIY?

$4000 for 2 weeks is standard package pricing. DIY same trip is roughly $1500-2500 depending on hotel choice. Difference: convenience. If planning stresses you out, $4000 is fair (it includes all logistics, guides, transfers, accommodations pre-vetted). If planning excites you, DIY. Middle ground: DIY the itinerary + hotels via Booking.com, then hire a chauffeur car for the whole trip ($60-90/day) - saves $1500-2000, adds 2-3 hours of planning.
Middle ground is the sweet spot. You save half, keep flexibility, still don't drive yourself. The only real value of the fully-guided tour is if you want zero decisions on trip. And even then - a good chauffeur handles most of that anyway.
