We have umbrellas for a possible shower. When do locals expect you to lower them as the First Randoli cortege passes so views are not blocked.

Lower as the main line approaches and keep it down while dancers and tuskers pass your stretch. Locals will say something if you forget — better to lower early than argue.

On free side streets the pressure is lighter, but the same courtesy still applies when the line is in front of you.

A low umbrella also stops you clocking someone camera bag behind you. Courtesy cuts both ways.
