Unawatuna midday, heat advisory on the phone, toddler already pink — shade the cafe or still let them paddle knee-deep

Yellow pole is not up. Sea looks ordinary. Kid is already flushed from the walk. Heat caution is what the phone says. Beach bar says the flag is only for insurance and wants a second round. I want a local, not a cocktail.

Shade first. Heat caution is the thing today, not a brochure. Knee-deep is fine if they already cooled in shade. The bar does not write the flags and does not write the heat. If they go pink, you are out. Nobody here is quoting a colour I did not see on a pole.

We kept the kid under a cafe awning, ten minutes paddle, back. Fine. The bar wanted a second round more than a safe bay.

Locals sit the heat. Pride argues with a phone advisory and then buys a plaster.
