Not going to starve. Jaffna has a strong Tamil-Hindu vegetarian tradition (temple food, thali culture). Rio Ice Cream + Green Grass restaurant + Malayan Cafe do full vegetarian menus. Palmyra products (palmyra flower jaggery sweets) are all vegetarian and unique to the region. Dosa, idli, sambar - full South Indian veg cuisine here. That said - Jaffna crab curry is famous for a reason, and you'll walk past it constantly. If not eating it doesn't bother you, go. If it will, add a few carnivore days elsewhere.

^ agree. Also: Palmyra Restaurant in Colombo does elevated Jaffna Tamil vegetarian cuisine if you want to sample the tradition without the north trip. But Jaffna itself is worth going for the vibe/history.
