Wasgamuwa (northeast Central Province) is Sri Lanka's largest and least-touristed major park — dense forest, sloth bears, elephants, leopards (elusive here), and 143 bird species. Zero jeep crowds. Access via Mahiyangana or Polonnaruwa side; requires early morning drive.

Full-day safari essential (park is huge). Camping permits available for overnight — Sri Lankan wilderness at its best. Bring binoculars, water, food. Sightings sparser than Yala but the experience is uncrowded and immersive. Operators: reputable ones from Habarana or Polonnaruwa.
