Wedding photographer here - can I take paid gigs on tourist ETA?

Fast track deportation and potentially a 5-year re-entry ban. Sri Lanka's ETA explicitly prohibits paid work. They actively enforce - Immigration checks Airbnb/hotel visitor lists and cross-references with Instagram/social. Multiple photographers deported in 2024-2025 for exactly this. Not worth $500 to be banned. Legal route: apply for a business visa or work permit through a local agency. Takes 2-4 weeks. Or work with an already-licensed local photographer as a 'workshop assistant' (still gray but less risky).
^ correct. Also worth noting: if you're a wedding photographer with an obvious Instagram brand and social media, you're not going to fly under the radar. Immigration officers check social media of suspected work-tourists. Don't risk it - book gigs through legit local agency who handles your work permit.
