Seeing talk of roughly two to two-and-a-half metre seas along Puttalam-Colombo-Galle. We have kids who only want a shallow paddle Sunday. Is swimming basically off-limits, or are some sheltered spots still okay.

Treat open-beach swimming as off for small kids while the rough-seas note is live. Paddle only where locals say the shelf is gentle, and skip if white water looks pushy.

Hotels often have a pool for exactly this weekend. Use it without guilt.

If a lifeguard or fisher says no, believe them. Kids tire fast in chop even knee-deep.
