What are the best hidden gems to visit in Matale city.
3 Answers from travellers
Matale is famous for its spice gardens, but a true hidden gem is the Aluviharaya Rock Cave Temple. It is deeply historical and much less crowded than the temples in Kandy, offering a very peaceful atmosphere to explore ancient scriptures.
You absolutely must visit Sembuwatta Lake. It is a stunning, serene lake surrounded by lush green tea plantations and pine forests, perfect for a relaxing afternoon picnic away from the busy town center.
If you love history, the Nalanda Gedige is incredible. It is a unique ancient stone temple that perfectly blends Hindu and Buddhist architectural styles, located right in the geographical center of Sri Lanka.
