I love chasing waterfalls and want to see the most spectacular ones during my hill country trip. Which waterfalls should I absolutely prioritize and how accessible are they for regular tourists.

The magnificent Bambarakanda Falls near Haputale is the tallest waterfall in Sri Lanka cascading down an incredible two hundred and sixty three meters. It is easily accessible by tuk tuk from the main road and offers a short walking path to the base. Diyaluma Falls is another stunning option famous for its natural infinity pools at the top where you can safely swim with views over the Koslanda valley.

Do not miss the famous Ravana Falls just outside Ella town. It is easily the most photographed waterfall in Sri Lanka and sits right beside the main road making it incredibly convenient. The falls are connected to the legend of the Ramayana epic and feature a small cave believed to have hidden Princess Sita centuries ago.

Visit waterfalls during or immediately after the monsoon season from October through December for the most dramatic water flow. During the dry months of February and March many smaller waterfalls reduce to just a trickle. Always check recent photos on social media before making long detours to confirm the falls are flowing well.
