While the massive wooden Geta Bera drums drive the rhythm, traditional Kandyan dancing is heavily accompanied by a small, piercing double reed oboe called the Horanewa. You will also frequently hear the rhythmic clashing of small metallic cymbals known as Thalampata keeping the dancers perfectly in time.
