Ceylon Arrack is widely considered the absolute premium export quality brand. It is incredibly smooth aged in halmilla wood casks and tastes somewhat similar to a refined rum or cognac. It is perfect for sipping neat.
Make sure you explicitly buy purely distilled coconut arrack. Some cheaper local brands blend it with neutral spirits which results in a much harsher taste and a guaranteed terrible hangover.
If you want the classic everyday local favorite look for Rockland Old Arrack or DCSL Extra Special. These are the staple brands you will find in every local tavern across the island.
