The strict dress code for the sacred sites in Anuradhapura requires both men and women to have their shoulders and knees completely covered. Shorts and tank tops are strictly forbidden.

While you do not have to wear pure white, doing so is considered highly respectful by the locals. You must also remove your shoes and hats before stepping onto the temple grounds.
