If the sky opens on Temple of the Tooth, is there a covered plan, or do I just sit with tea?

Keep Temple of the Tooth simple. Ask your guesthouse or the station board that morning, not a chat rumour. Write the fare before you sit, leave daylight for the return, and do not invent an official fee because someone at the kerb named one. If the weather turns, sit with tea and move the outdoor bit. Ordinary bags are fine.

We did Temple of the Tooth last week without a driver. One hop, one plan B, small cash, and PickMe where it actually pings. The tourist loop cost more and showed us less. If you only have one day, pick the main thing and skip the extra viewpoint.

If you are tired, stay nearer the bus stand or the fort/town centre rather than hunting a perfect Temple of the Tooth sunset. Cards fail in smaller places, so pull cash in Colombo, Kandy, or Galle first. Locals will tell you if a ticket is counter-only.
