What's a normal tip for a driver after 5 days? Hotel said $50 - lowball?

5 full days of driving. He was excellent, patient with kids, knew good restaurants. Hotel concierge said $50 tip is 'standard'. Feels low for the effort but I don't know the norm.

Standard is 1000-2000 LKR per day, so $50 for 5 days is on the higher end of standard - not lowball. If he was exceptional (kids, restaurant tips, extra effort), bumping to $70-80 is generous but not weird. Anything over $100 for a week is 'wow' generous but not necessary. Do not tip $10/day - that becomes the new baseline and inflates for everyone.

^ agree. Also consider: pay in USD or LKR. Locally he'll prefer LKR (no exchange hassle). And put it in an envelope with a written note if you can - the note about how he made the trip is often valued more than the extra $20.
