What's actually the difference between a 'chauffeur' and a 'driver' here?

Marketing but with substance. 'Chauffeur guide' means the driver has a Sri Lanka Tourism Board license as a guide (took exams, knows history/culture, can guide you at sites). 'Driver' just drives. Chauffeur guides cost 20-40% more but you get context at every stop, restaurant recommendations, mediation with vendors. Worth it if you want to actually learn. Not worth it if you just want to get from A to B.
To add: many people book 'chauffeur guide' and end up with just a driver because the agency uses the fancy word. Ask specifically: does he have SLTDA guide license? Ask to see the ID. Or ask specific culture questions on the first day - you'll know quickly.
