Colombo hotel group chat forwarded a blurry flyer about a protest day and island-wide transport shutdown. Our bus to the south is booked for morning. Reception shrugged. Do travelers treat these as real until the stand is empty, or is September rumor volume just high? Not looking for politics — just whether to prepay a private transfer tonight.

Treat viral WhatsApp flyers as unverified until you check a second source: hotel desk that actually called a depot, a local news site you trust, or the bus stand the evening before. Some hartal days do thin out CTB and private buses; many rumors fizzle. Do not invent island-wide certainty from one blurry image. If your trip is critical, ask reception to confirm with the operator and keep a backup tuk or van number — prepaid panic transfers every time a forward arrives will empty your wallet. Morning-of: if the stand is running, go; if it is shut, switch.
