When is the official Vesak Poya in 2026?

While May 1 is a Poya day, the government has designated May 30, 2026, as the official State Vesak Festival. This aligns with traditional astrological calculations for the birth and enlightenment celebrations. Most major lantern displays in Colombo and Kandy will be active during the weekend of May 30. However, religious observances will still take place at temples on May 1.
