I am interested in colonial crafts. Are there still local women making lace by hand and where can I buy authentic pieces.

You can still find Beeralu lace makers along Leyn Baan Street inside the Fort. Look for the small porch areas where elderly ladies sit with their wooden pillows and bobbins. It is a slow and intricate process brought by the Portuguese. To ensure authenticity, buy directly from these artisans rather than the large souvenir shops. This directly supports the preservation of this rare craft.
