I want to see the Sri Lanka Blue Magpie and Red faced Malkoha. Should I enter through the Kudawa or Deniyaya side for the best birding tours.

Kudawa is generally considered the better entrance for serious birdwatchers. The trails are flatter and the bird flocks are more frequently spotted near the research station area. Most of the highly specialized birding guides are also based in Kudawa. For the best chance to see the mixed species feeding flocks, you need to be on the trail by six in the morning when the forest is most active.

Deniyaya is better if you want a more rugged hiking experience with waterfalls, but Kudawa remains the gold standard for ornithology. Make sure to hire a guide who specifically carries a spotting scope and knows the bird calls.
