Kalutara and the surrounding southern coastal belt are indeed famous for producing the best coconut toddy in the country. To drink it safely and authentically, you should visit a licensed local Toddy Tavern. These are unassuming, rustic local bars where men gather to drink fresh toddy directly from large plastic jugs. Ask your tuk tuk driver to take you to a reputable, licensed tavern early in the morning for the sweetest, freshest batch.
