You are correct. While May 1 is the Poya day, the 2026 National Vesak Festival will be held in Matara from May 27 to 29. It will feature a massive cultural exhibition and a state ceremony to celebrate Buddhist heritage. The Labour Department has clarified that while the festival is late in the month, the public holiday for the day following Vesak remains on May 2.
